In addition to the traditional classroom studies, exchange programs, international conferences, field trips and a variety of cultural programs provide students with a huge number of opportunities to achieve something whilst enjoying life to the full. The University of Pécs maintains an environment, which inspires students to excel, although academic life is only part of the BA and MSc experience.
There are abundant opportunities to participate in student organizations and leadership as well as in activities matching the particular interest of the students. Besides representing students’ interests at official university forums the Student Representative Board and the Student Organization are proactive in organizing a wide range of activities. These include the Pécs Spring Festival, Faculty Days, Movie Nights, our Freshmen’s Ball, the “Fox-Chase” running competition and so on. Students can also experience the production of the faculty magazine Fészek (Nest) from writing the articles till sending it to the print. If someone has a good eye to capture the moment, like helping fellow students if they are stuck with their studies, or simply want to gain extra knowledge of the profession, one should join the preferred student organization and be a member of the team!
Enjoy the various cultural programs that this beautiful town can offer you and the numerous events organized by the University!
Faculty entertainment is organized by the local student union units. Papers edited by students of each individual Faculty contribute to the flow of information. The Student Union also organizes events to make student life more enjoyable, like Camp for Freshmen, Freshmen' Ball, University Days, etc. The performances of 'Janus' University Theatre are popular not only with students, but the whole community of Pécs as well.
Besides the traditional Pécs Days, held in September by the City Council, the student unions organize National Cultural Days which aim at introducing various cultures, traditions to the citizens, especially, to the students of Pécs. So far, Egyptian, British, North American, African, Ibero-American, Asian Days have been held, together with Latin-American, Italian and Polish cultural festivals, and an International Evening has also been held with many ambassadors of the home countries of international students studying here.
As Pécs is a student city, many bars, clubs and discotheques provide students with additional relaxation and amusement. You can find all the necessary and up-to-date information on exhibitions, theatre and cinema programs, parties, concerts and other cultural and sport events in the free "PécsiEst" (Pécs at Night) magazine, which is published every other week. You should look out for them at dormitory receptions, university entrances, restaurants and bars or at tourist information points around the city centre. We also suggest that you check out their website, which informs you about upcoming cultural events in the biggest cities of Hungary, including the capital - (Hungarian website).

The Dancing University has not lost any of its popularity since it was founded in 2000. In the past ten years the success was unbroken; moreover, in the last semesters there were more than 1,700 applicants trying to fit into the maximum of 1,000 places a semester.
This means that 10% of full-time students wish to take the courses of the Dancing University. One reason for its popularity is that these courses are also accepted as physical education classes at all faculties. Since the last academic year one dance course is also available in Szekszárd at the Illyés Gyula Faculty of Education.
The great success and appreciation of the program casts a favourable light on the University of Pécs, and the performing teams have proven their dancing ability at many university, city, and national festivals and competitions. Due to this reputation there is high demand for the program and courses often fill up in a few minutes after registration begins. To meet the high demand, this semester we offered two parallel courses but applicants must still be very quick in order to be able to get in.
In 2005 Dancing University set the Guinness record of „the most people belly dancing simultaneously" and on the 27th September 2010 the project reclaimed this title.
Our performer groups have been offering great program since 2000. In February 2011 the Dancing University Dance Team was founded in order to be able to perform in the most various dance styles.
Good luck for registration and have a great time!
