János Barancsuk graduated from the Faculty of Economics in 1978. In 1980 he defended his dr. univ. thesis, in 1999 he received his Candidate's degree and in 2015 he habilitated. From 1978 to 2020 he was a full-time lecturer at the Faculty, and is currently a retired lecturer at the Institute of Economics and Econometrics. His research and teaching interests include Microeconomics, Market Theory (Industrial Organizations) and History of Economic Theories. From 2006 to 2012 he was Head of the Department of Economics, and from 2002 to 2012 as the Chair of the faculty Scientific Student Committee, inspiring and coordinating student research projects. In 2007, he participated in the foundation of the “Janus Pannonius” College of Advanced Studies. He supported the work of the college as its president until 2016, and then as a patron teacher. After the establishment of the Hungarian Institute at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Babeş-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, he took an active role in the development and teaching of courses and mentoring of his colleagues there. In 2003, he was awarded the “István Széchenyi” Scholarship, in 2011 he was awarded the "XXXth Anniversary National Scientific Student Conference Commemorative Medal”, in 2016 he was awarded the "Bonis Bona - For the Nation's Talents". In 2020, on the occasion of his retirement, the Faculty Council awarded him the Gold Medal for the "Pécs School of Economics".
