Gábor Rappai graduated in 1987 from the Faculty of Business and Economics of the Janus Pannonius University of Pécs, majoring in commodity trading. In 1989 he received a dr. univ. degree, in 1997 he became a candidate of economics, in 2003 he habilitated, since 2017 he has been a Doctor (DSc) of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He is a member of the Scientific Committee of Statistics and Prognostics of the HAS, Hungarian Statistical Society and the Economic Modelling Society. Since 2014, he has been working as a professor at the Department of Economics and Econometrics at the FBE UP, since 1 February 2019, he has been Head of the Doctoral School of Business Administration. He also takes an active part in the institution’s management: between 1998 and 2005, he has served as vice dean, while between 2005 and 2011 he was the dean of the Faculty. He was a member of the Senate of UP for 14 years and of the Faculty Council of the FBE UP for 30 years. His research interests include modelling of financial time series, econometric testing of causality, and applications of stochastic models in sports economics.
