From the next semester our Faculty welcomes a new Senior Lecrurer, Dr. Ever Bedoya who was our PhD student earlier. It's a big step forward for our education and for our internationalization.
Firstly, please introduce yourself and tell us when did you come to Pécs.
My name is Ever Bedoya, I come from a very beautiful country, from the top of South America: I come from Colombia which is one of the world’s oxygen servers. How I ended up living in this city, in this country? Well, it was in 2016 that I made my decision to come to Hungary to do my PhD studies. I did my PhD in Business Administration in this Faculty which I completed last year. After that a went back to Colombia for a year. I heard about the possibility that there was a position in the Faculty, I applied, and I was chosen.
What is this position?
I’m a senior lecturer, right now I’m preparing for next year’s classes. Basically, I’m a lecturer. also I run my own research project.
What is your research project about?
When I finished, my research area was about leadership, job satisfaction and communication satisfaction, organizational communication satisfaction. But when I travelled back to Colombia, I went to live in the woods There, I started talking to local farmers. So basically, the problem I could find out was that the distributor buys the product at a very low price, and they sell it to supermarkets at a high price. Consequently, farmers who are the ones who make all the effort don’t get enough from the big money. From this point, the research problem emerges. The aim of the research is to connect rural and urban gardeners through computer-mediated communication platforms.
Do you think this lack of communication is a worldwide problem? Do you see it in Hungary, Europe also, or is it common in your country?
Definitely, communication is a worldwide phenomenon that impacts all societies. New methods of communication bring new challenges.
You are here in Pécs for years now so you had the chance to discover it. How do you like it here?
Pécs is nice and quiet. After living here for 6 years I’ve met good people. I have some good friends. People are friendly usually, but not always at the beginning. It’s because you need to earn their trust. But once you gain their confidence, they become very good friends.
I’m not a party guy, I like pubs more – and there are a lot of them. I love movies and we have good movie theatres. I like football a lot, I go to PMFC matches to the stadium or watch it on TV. Fortunately, Pécs has the same entertainment activities as we have in my country. The city is safe and clean, to be true, I really love Pécs.
What is your favourite free time activity here?
Football. We used to have a team of international students and we practiced during spring.
Colombia can be really different from Hungary. It’s far away, in a different continent. Can you highlight a thing which is really different?
Well, there are two things: When I arrived here in 2016, I remember it was one of the toughest winters. The temperature in Hungary dropped very low – especially compared to Colombia and I’m not used to this cold.
The other is food. People here don’t grow many of fruits and vegetables we use in Colombia for cookin. So I prepare my own food. Little by little, I have found places where I can find these type of products. Hungarians put too much paprika in everything which is unusual for me. From time to time I try Hungarian desserts and soups – or pálinka.
For the ending: what are your future plans?
I want to stay here, that is my plan so far. I don’t know what is going to happen in a year or two but basically I’m happy here and I want to stay here as long as the university decides.
