The International Evening

2026. April 16. 14:19

The International Evening is one of the largest events in the history of the University of Pécs, and certainly one of the biggest gatherings of its more than 20,000 international students. Held annually each spring, it brings together cultures, ethnicities, and people from all over the world through food, music, fashion, and live performances. It’s an event that goes beyond faculty boundaries, drawing in students, staff, and even alumni.

For one evening, the space comes alive with music, laughter, and a quiet but powerful sense of pride—the kind that comes from representing your homeland and sharing a piece of it with others. From Nigeria to the Philippines, Japan to Mongolia, Zimbabwe to Kazakhstan, the diversity on display is always striking.

This year felt like a tribute to everything the event has been. With participants from over 100 countries, the energy was present from start to finish. The theme, Masquerade, was embraced fully seen in the outfits, the details, and the effort people put into presenting themselves. It became a vivid showcase of culture, fashion, and identity.

What stood out most was the intention behind the performances. They weren’t just dances or songs; they felt like invitations into different cultures. There was clear dedication—months of preparation reflected in how confidently and cohesively each act was delivered. The pride was evident, not overstated, but deeply felt.

At times, the line between performer and audience disappeared, with people joining in, dancing and singing together. Those moments captured the spirit of the evening best.

In the end, it was another memorable edition of the International Evening. It’s the kind of experience every UP student should have at least once during their time at the university.
