Head of Department: dr. habil. András Rideg
In our teaching and research in decision science, entrepreneurship, and business applications, we are committed to methodological rigour, analytical thinking, and practical relevance. Our shared academic approach is grounded in the belief that data-driven analysis and mathematical modelling are important tools for informed economic and business decision-making and, ultimately, for enhancing competitiveness.
The members of our Department contribute to undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programmes across the Faculty of Business and Economics. Our teaching portfolio encompasses business mathematics and mathematical modelling, information technology and business intelligence, production and process management, as well as strategic management and entrepreneurship. In our teaching, we connect methodological foundations with real-world economic challenges and business applications. Our aim is not only to provide students with a sound understanding of individual methods, but also to develop their ability to apply these methods to analyse complex problems, evaluate alternatives, and support well-informed decisions. We also encourage the academic and professional development of talented students through student research activities (TDK), academic supervision, and opportunities to participate in research.
Our research covers a diverse range of fields, including decision science, operations research, production management, business intelligence, and entrepreneurship research, with a shared focus on firm competitiveness. Our research activities address, among other topics, the resources, capabilities, innovation, and performance of small and medium-sized enterprises; the behavioural aspects of economic and entrepreneurial decision-making; corporate strategy; data and text mining; digitalisation and the business applications of artificial intelligence; agile organisational practices and their IT support; and production and decision support systems. Across these areas, we place particular emphasis on ensuring that our research findings are relevant to, and applicable in, economic and business practice.
The Department’s academic activities are further strengthened by national and international research collaborations, as well as close cooperation with other academic units within the Faculty. Our colleagues are also actively involved in the work of the Simonyi Business and Economic Development Center (Simonyi BEDC), helping to strengthen the links between education, research, and entrepreneurship development.
As Head of Department, my aim is to bring together the DDSE’s diverse areas of expertise through a shared academic vision and a strong culture of collaboration. We seek to foster an academic community in which methodological expertise, data-driven thinking, and an entrepreneurial mindset complement and reinforce one another, contributing to a deeper understanding of economic and business challenges.
