Teylor Azola, a dedicated and ambitious student, recently returned from an incredible academic journey at Oxford, made possible by the Pannónia Scholarship Programme. With the generous support of out school, Teylor was able to attend a short but impactful course at Somerville College, Oxford. This scholarship program aims to provide outstanding students with opportunities for academic enrichment, cultural exchange, and professional development.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was securing additional funding. While the scholarship provided support, I needed extra resources for travel and daily expenses. To bridge the gap, I launched a fundraising campaign, took on part-time jobs, and tutored students. Adapting to a new academic system also required effort, but engaging with professors and local students helped me adjust.
Traveling to Oxford was both exciting and nerve-wracking. As a Chilean citizen, I had to obtain an ETA travel permit before heading to the UK. I planned my trip carefully, using student discounts on flights and public transport. I stayed at Backpackers Oxford, an affordable and social hostel, which allowed me to connect with international students.
The Professional Leadership Certification program at Somerville College exceeded my expectations. I attended interactive courses on leadership, communication, and resilience, learning from experts like Andrew White, Sarah Rozenthuler, and Robert McCann. Their insights reshaped my perspective on leadership, personal growth, and overcoming adversity.
Oxford itself was an incredible place to live. Though I didn’t engage with student organizations, I built strong friendships with my classmates. The city’s public transportation, diverse restaurants, and rich cultural scene made every day an adventure. Visiting museums, theaters, and historical sites deepened my appreciation for its heritage.
This experience was transformative. Beyond academic knowledge, I learned that personal growth isn’t linear—every challenge and triumph shapes us. Success isn’t just about achievements but about how we use our knowledge to inspire others. Leadership is about action, listening, and helping those around us grow.
I highly recommend this scholarship to students seeking academic enrichment, cultural exchange, and professional development. It provided me with opportunities I never thought possible, and for that, I am deeply grateful.
For future applicants: start early, explore multiple funding sources, network, and embrace new experiences. Without this scholarship, attending Oxford wouldn’t have been possible. This journey has been one of resilience, learning, and self-discovery. I extend my deepest gratitude to the scholarship committee, the Faculty of Business, and the University of Pécs for believing in me and making this experience possible.
