In the first Corporate Talk of 2024, we had a conversation with Attila Bessenyei, CEO of Laurel, about the importance of in-store automation.
Optimisation of the checkout zone and self-service checkouts
In the beginning of the Corporate Talk, Attila Bessenyei presented Laurel's retail products and outlined the company's future goals. We analysed in detail the functioning and importance of store automation, emphasising that technological changes are rapidly following customer needs. He likened the in-store checkout process to a Formula 1 tyre change, where speed is of the essence. In addition to the benefits of automation, he also discussed its limitations, for example, based on the experience of Amazon's fully automated store.
The presentation also covered the return on investment of automation to increase efficiency and maintain competitiveness. In closing, we learned that Laurel's goal is not to create a completely staffless store, but a staff-reduced store where technology is the ally of the workers.
