As of 1 July 2022, the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Pécs will be headed by a new Dean, Professor Dr. András Takács.
Looking back, the Faculty has had a successful double deanship. Dr. Zoltán Schepp stepped down from his post after 7 years on 30 June at the traditional closing ceremony of the "Pécsiközgáz". During his term as Dean, the Faculty has achieved significant progress and outstanding results in almost all areas. In 2019, the English-language Business Administration and Management degree course became the second in Hungary to obtain EFMD international accreditation, which put the training programme on the map of international higher education. It is also important to mention the recent award of the title of HAS (Hungarian Academy of Sciences) Outstanding Research Centre, which is a very prestigious recognition of the Faculty’s research work. In addition to the professional work, the Faculty’s building in Rákóczi Road was completely renovated during this period, including the construction of a state-of-the-art building and teaching technology. During the long term of the Dean, the management faced several challenges: the rapid resolution of the pandemic situation, the minimisation of the aftermath, the preparation for the change of model and the smooth transition are all praise for a job well done. The outgoing Dean has left a market-oriented institution with a solid background and an excellent teaching staff, and he will continue his work as Vice-Rector at university level from September 2022.
Dr. András Takács previously took part in the management tasks as Deputy Dean for Educational Affairs, so the Faculty of Business and Economics has a new Dean with experience and insight into institutional management. His strategy focuses on carrying on the legacy of the past, but there is also a strong emphasis on developing effective solutions and practices to new challenges; also, regionality is a key element of his vision. The new Dean's term of office will be basically determined by the fact that since 2021 the Faculty of Business and Economics has been operating as part of a foundation, and by the uncertainties of the economic environment (e.g. rising inflation).
As the head of one of the country's most distinguished institutions of higher education in economics, his mission is to train excellent, solution-oriented, responsible business professionals in order to promote sustainable development in the local and wider environment. It aims to achieve this in line with the model change and along the indicators defined by the Board of Trustees.
In the period preceding the current Dean's term, the Faculty has reached the limits of its quantitative capacity, so further quantitative growth will not be an objective; rather, in line with the ambitions of the University's Board of Trustees, the focus will be on quality and excellence. The key tasks for the next period will be to develop the teaching staff, to further increase academic excellence, to improve the quality of the student body, to develop international programmes and to strengthen corporate and alumni relations
Dr András Takács' current mandate runs from 2022 to 2026. A video of the change of Dean can be viewed at the link below.
