SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS – doctoral level
Step 1: How to apply for Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship
1. FIND YOUR CHOSEN PROGRAMME - November – December
Available study fields differ from partner country to partner country. You can either check the study field provided for your country at the Stipendium Hungaricum website or start an application in the DreamApply system and select the relevant study programme. You can check the list of sending partners and eligible study fields here.
2. CONTACT YOUR SENDING PARTNER – DECEMBER
Applications shall also be submitted to the responsible authority of the sending partner. Each sending partner might have different deadlines and requirements for submitting the application material. Contact your sending partner (the local Hungarian Embassy, the related ministry, council etc.) to inquire about their exact procedures.
3. REGISTER AND UPLOAD YOUR DOCUMENTS
Applications are processed in an online application system (apply.stipendiumhungaricum.hu). You can browse the universities and colleges, but only two choices are allowed. Make sure that your chosen programmes are relevant to the field of your studies. After you make your choices, you need to make sure you upload all the required documents for each programme you choose.
Suppose you do not obtain some of the mentioned documents until the application deadline. In that case, you must upload a signed declaration stating that you will receive and upload the missing document(s) by the 1st of August.
The research areas are available for the PhD Business Administration here and for the PhD Regional Development here. You must submit the research proposal based on these areas. As there is a limited number of supervisors available, we cannot guarantee admission based only on the research proposal.
Our doctoral schools do not require any of the applicants to attach a supervisor statement to the Stipendium Hungaricum application, therefor we will not issue this document. Once the sending country nominates you, we will evaluate the uploaded research proposal and based on this assessment we will decide about the further steps.
4. SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION BY THE DEADLINE
Your application must be submitted by the deadline. Please ensure that all required documents are attached, and all the required fields are filled out correctly before submitting your application.
5. SENDING PARTNER'S NOMINATION LIST
Only the nominated applicants will be forwarded to the universities. Sending partners will nominate the best applicants by the end of February, and nominated applications will subsequently be forwarded to the chosen Hungarian higher institutions. Higher education institutions have no influence on this decision.
6. SUBMITTING MEDICAL CERTIFICATE
The applicants nominated by the Sending Partners must submit a scanned copy of a medical certificate of satisfactory health condition.
Step 2: ENTRANCE EXAMS AT OUR SCHOOL – APRIL - MAY
1. Evaluation
After the nomination process is done, we start the evaluation of the uploaded documents. The document evaluation is based on a point system; please see the details here. You must fulfil all the mentioned criteria and be selected by the Heads of the Doctoral Schools/PhD Programme Managers to participate in the admission interview. If you do not meet one of the requirements, or you are not selected for interview the application must be rejected, your status will be Failed in the online system. The decision shall be without appeal.
2. Admission interview
An oral interview (online) is scheduled with the selected applicants and carried out by a committee. The qualified applicant receives a guideline e-mail (on the e-mail address provided during the application process) approximately 5-7 days before the date of the admission interview. Shortly after, the applicant gets the actual MS Teams invitation with the link to join the meeting at the given time (be aware of the timezone differences).
The interview takes approximately 20 minutes, and the committee will ask you about your background, future plans and motivation to choose us and your research topic.
The committee might ask you additional questions; no previously set list exists.
3. Admission decision
The admissions committee proposes, but the decision is made by the Heads of the Doctoral Schools within a maximum of two weeks from the date of the interview, taking into account the applicant's score and the capacity of the training programme applied for. The decision shall be without appeal.
4. Offers
If you successfully pass the document evaluation and the admission interview and upload all the required documents, you will receive an "Acceptable" offer.
If you successfully passed the document evaluation and the admission interview, but you have some missing documents, you will receive a "Conditionally acceptable" offer. In this case, you will be given a certain amount of time to submit the missing documents. After this is done, you will receive the "Acceptable" offer.
If you cannot pass the admission interview, you will receive a "Failed" status, which means the application is rejected.
The decision shall be without appeal.
Step 3: Scholarship decision
It is essential to highlight that we only make the admission decision. Tempus Public Foundation (TPF) will make the final decision about the scholarship.
TPF makes the scholarship decisions at the end of June/beginning of July and notifies the applicants.
If you receive the "Scholarship awarded" offer, you only need to confirm/accept the offer and wait for the Letter of Acceptance and Letter of Award.
If you receive the "Conditionally awarded" offer, you have a missing document, which you must upload by the 1st of August. If this is done, you become "Scholarship awarded". You only need to confirm/accept the offer and wait for the Letter of Acceptance and Letter of Award.
Step 4: Arranging visa and arriving in Pécs
Applying for a visa is entirely your responsibility. As all the immigration-related tasks belong to the National Directorate–General for Aliens Policing, we do not affect the process.
Students are expected to arrive in Pécs by the official semester start (1 September) but no later than the 4th week of September. You will receive information on the tasks to be done; please read it carefully.
Here, you can read about the UP-FBE CODES AND GUIDELINES OF THE ADMISSION PROCESS.
