MTA 200 - European integration

As part of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences’ 200th anniversary programme series, today’s conference “Perspectives of European Integration in Light of Recent Challenges” focuses on the EU’s key economic and hashtaggeopolitical pressures and the evolving role of industrial policy. We are pleased to share that Erik Braun was invited to speak and to join the afternoon panel discussion. In his presentation, he outlined six strategic directions that could strengthen Europe’s industrial hashtagpolicy:

1. Reducing dependence through diversification rather than autarky.

2. Strengthening supply security by identifying critical points, not by stockpiling.

3. Smart reshoring—bringing back what is strategic, not everything.

4. Developing modern services to support the industries of the future.

5. Enhancing capital markets and firm structures to enable scale and innovation.

6. Ensuring sustainability, which is achievable only if all actors move in the same direction (production and consumption).
