It's there to save the day if you miss the last full-fare bus and it'll be your best friend when the library becomes your second home during exam season. For most students travel discounts are the strongest argument for keeping that ID handy. Since the introduction of the national and county passes, domestic travel has never been cheaper before. You can get tickets or passes for MÁV (trains) and Volánbusz (intercity buses) with a 90% discount. However, the card isn’t just for traveling across Hungary. Important: Keep it valid!
All these discounts are useless if your card is not valid. Remember: the spring semester sticker is valid until the end of October, and the autumn one until the end of March. This means that you have a little grace period after the semester starts, but don't wait until the last minute to get your new sticker! A quick appointment at the Academic Office (TO), a few minutes of administration and you're good to go.
