From the past to the future
How to get from the past to the future? We learned one way from our invited guest Philipp Koch (Philipp Koch (kochphilipp.com)) at our Research Seminar on 25 April 2024. Philipp is a researcher at EcoAustria in Vienna and a PhD candidate at the University of Toulouse. His recipe is simple: collect relevant data on hundreds of famous people from the last 700 years of history, load it all into a super powerful computer, apply 'machine learning' and build a flexible regression network model. And there you have it - a model for estimating GDP per capita in historical times. However, Philipp's presentation also provided the sophisticated details of the research work for all those who attended the lecture. In addition, the issues of economic growth today were discussed. We would like to thank Philipp Koch for his professional preparation and for supporting the success of our programme and providing us with this up-to-date knowledge. We would also like to thank all our dear colleagues who attended the programme for their kind attention. We are looking forward to welcoming you all at the next Research Seminar, details of which are available here (Kutatói szemináriumok | Pécsi Tudományegyetem Közgazdaságtudományi Kar (pte.hu)).
