Every semester, the Faculty of Business and Economics hosts the IEXPO, organised by the CAL, a startup competition that invites students from across the PTE community to present innovative business proposals. Through emails and announcements, the faculty encourages as many participants as possible to share their creative solutions with specialists, partners, and business leaders from all over Pécs.
Students may sign up as individuals or groups, with a flexible registration period designed to maximize participation. Business ideas must align with the competition’s categories: problem solving and consulting, research and analysis, idea and innovation, social and community projects, and an open category for unique concepts outside the standard themes.
On the day of the event, each team has a showcasing board and a cardboard sheet to outline their business plan or structure. Many teams also usually present minimum viable products (MVPs) or samples. These boards become colourful, creative expressions of each business concept, as an attractive display increases the chances of catching the intended audience’s eye.
The IEXPO is structured so that students must proactively approach experts and invite them to view their boards. A convincing, charismatic pitcher is essential, as the first moments often determine success. The goal is to hook listeners, secure their attention, and receive valuable feedback. Some teams even use small incentives like sweets or treat to make their booths more inviting.
Experts and specialists rank the businesses through a secure, transparent system: they scan a barcode, enter their details, and assign points to the ideas that impress them most. The day culminates in an award ceremony, where the top three winning teams in each category receive gift packages from various partners.
